Te Laudamus
Available Spring 2026
Our Lord speaks and we listen. His Word bestows what it says. Faith that is born from what is heard acknowledges the gifts received with eager thankfulness and praise.
Te Laudamus is designed as a companion—a hymnal intended not to replace or duplicate, but to complement whatever is a congregation’s primary hymnal, providing worthy entries, treasures not found in recently published hymnals. As it has evolved, Te Laudamus has become a collection of historic and modern resources, with an emphasis on gems from the Reformation era. The assortment includes psalms, hymns, and liturgies deemed suitable for Lutheran worship today, which may be used with benefit in other denominations as well.

Te Laudamus is truly a treasure trove of historic Lutheran hymnody for the modern Christian. Page after page, the poetic heights and depths of some of the greatest minds of Lutheranism provide a feast for the soul that yearns to sing of the gifts God has prepared for His holy people. Didactic in nature, TL does not leave its reader wanting for further context and explanation, leading with the full psalter and concluding with settings for worship, talcing care to provide explanatory notes and historical background where necessary. And yet it would be no surprise if the reader is first drawn in by the over fifty pieces of full color liturgical artwork printed within its pages. Indeed, this feast for our souls may very well begin by drawing in our eyes and our hands, then our tongues, our ears, our hearts, and our minds, heightening our senses for the great feast given us in the Divine Service. In this way, TL is a beautiful representation of the whole aim of the Gottesdienst: To point us to Jesus.

With Te Laudamus, the Rev. Dr. Daniel Reuning and his co-editors give us a timeless hymnal “for all seasons” of Lutheran hymnody. In this unique collection from the great heritage of historic Reformation hymns, the user will find the complete hymnic work of Martin Luther, as well as significant representation of music and texts by Johann Crüger, Paul Gerhardt, Martin Franzmann, and additional chorales, many not found in current hymnals. Settings range from historic figures (Praetorius, Vulpius, and Bach) to contemporary composers. Going beyond hymnody, this volume also contains the fine setting of the Divine Service by Healey Willan, the complete Psalter in the unsurpassed King James language, pointed to Gregorian tones, as well as the historic Propers, also pointed to Gregorian psalm tones. All of this content is presented in graphic artistry and beauty, with ample background information. The entire work speaks with the authentic voice of experience, with knowledge undergirded by thorough probing research. The editors modestly claim that TL may serve as a supplement to existing hymnals. For the serious Lutheran, who understands music as a powerful means to express God’s Word, this book may even stand alone as a compendium sufficient unto itself.
